[The application of the EU legislation for the prophylaxis and control of infectious diseases in Latvia]

The general principles to be considered for the introduction of EU legislation system into the control of infectious animal diseases in Latvia are discussed. The following priorities of veterinary activity indicated by the European Commission are pointed out: successful work of laboratories and surveillance systems, contingency planning and equipment for dealing with the outbreak of diseases, animals identification and movement control, communication facilities, training of veterinary personnel.
