[Energy and protein normative requirements for pig nutrition used in Latvia and Northern countries]
1997
Leitane, A. (Latvian University of Agriculture, Jelgava (Latvia). Dept. of Animal Nutrition)
The aim of the research is to find out possibilities for more intensive pork production in Latvia. The main lines of pork production improvement are explained. The most important lines-proper feeding of pigs and improving feed quality - are discussed. The dietary normative requirements for various physiological groups of pigs elaborated at the Animal Nutrition Department of the LUA and used in Latvia have been compared with those used in Northern countries (Sweden). The comparison shows significant differences. As high quality feeds containing all the necessary nutritional elements are important for successful growth and productivity of animals, the conclusion has been drawn that to intensity pork production in Latvia the present nutritional norms should be revised and good concentrates for pigs have to be produced.
