Investigations were carried out at the Riga Zoo in July and December 1994. The fodder and wool of ten different artiodactyl animals were investigated on chemical composition. The analyses of fodder were made in the research laboratory of the Latvia University of Agriculture. The content of dry matter, ashes and minerals was determined. The experimental results showed that the fodder samples in the Riga Zoo were of a better quality than the typical ones, except the meadow hay samples. The analyses also showed the deficiency of such minerals as S, Zn, J, Co in fodder. It was stated that microelements in the wool of animals concentrate more during winter, and in camel wool all minerals concentrate in winter.
