Investigations on the compatibility of twelve apple clonal rootstocks with cultivar "Auksis"
1998

Compatibility of rootstocks with cultivar is very important from the practical point of view. Compatibility could be evaluated using visual observations and biochemical analysis. In this investigation, started in 1995, combinations of twelve forms of clonal rootstocks (from the USA were received M.9 EMLA, M.26 EMLA, MM.106, CG.65, Mark, C.6, CG.13, CG.10, locally grown - B.9, B.396, B.491, B.118) with the cultivar "Auksis" were used. To evaluate compatibility of rootstock/cultivar combinations several visual observations (premature yellow turn-over of leaves, termination of growth, break-off of the budded part at the graft-union), as well as biochemical analysis (content of ethylene, activity of peroxidase in leaves of the budded parts) were used. Sharp manifestations of incompatibility of cultivar "Auksis" with cultivars used in investigation were not observed. According to the results of biochemical analysis rootstock/cultivar combinations could be divided in four groups.
