[Weediness of abandoned fields]

Abandoned weed infested fields are characteristic of the present day agriculture in Estonia. In the period of 1994-1997 investigations were carried out to study the character of weeds on the abandoned fields. For that purpose 18 observation stations were established in the Central and Southern Estonia. The composition of weed species, weed number and mass as well as weed seed reserve in soil were determined. All these indices were greatly influenced by the abandoned field age and the preceding crop on it
