[Soil temperature and grass growth simulations using the PASTMOD Model] | La simulacion de la temperatura del suelo y el crecimiento de pastos utilizando el modelo PASTMOD

English. The simulation of pasture biological processes is a scientific activity which has been maturing quickly. The development of several grass growth models allow predicting the behavior of the productive ability of plants facing different scenarios. PASTMOD is a computer program written to simulate pasture productivity under temperate climate, and it is based on the prediction of soil temperatures. The objective was to compare soils temperature and pasture dry matter production simulations from PASTMOD, with field observations. The soil temperatures observed under field conditions confirmed that the temperature patterns were increased during the Spring, reached a maximum in the Summer and decreased during the Autumn. The results showed that the soil temperature simulations agree within +- 2 C throughout the period of observation, and that the more accurate soils temperature simulations were obtained at the 10 cm depth. The dry matter simulations with Tall Fescue compared well in trend and magnitude with the measured values, on the other hand, with the Ryegrass-Clover mixture, the simulations behaved not as close as Tall Fescue, perhaps caused by the temporal and spatial changes with the grass-legume mixture.

Spanish; Castilian. Las simulaciones de procesos biologicos en pastos es una actividad cientifica que ha venido avanzando. La generacion de diversos modelos permite predecir el comportamiento de la capacidad productiva de los pastos en diversos escenarios. PASTMOD (Pasture Modeling) es un programa computacional creado para simular la productividad de los pastos en climas templados, basado en la prediccion de temperaturas del suelo. El objetivo fue comparar las simulaciones de temperatura del suelo y crecimiento de pastos, generadas por PASTMOD con datos observados en condiciones de campo. Los resultados demostraron que las simulaciones de temperatura del suelo con PASTMOD estuvieron dentro de una variacion de +- 2 C en comparacion a los datos observados, y que las mejores predicciones se obtuvieron con las simulaciones a mayor profundidad de suelo. Las simulaciones de materia seca en Festuca Alta coincidieron en tendencia y magnitud con la informacion de campo, en tanto que para Ryegrass asociado con Trebol, las simulaciones fueron mas sesgadas debido a los cambio temporales y espaciales de la combinacion pasto-leguminosa.
