English. The objective of this study was to evaluate the establishment of different tree species suitable for live fencing. Ninety stakes of each of the following species Bursera simaruba, Gliricidia sepium, Jatropha sp, Ficus padifolia and Salix chilensis were planted at different intervals (1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 days after cutting) in plots of 6 m2, placing six stakes per plot. Variables recorded were: plant establishment (%), covering (%) and sprouting (%). Data were analyzed by using a complete randomized design with a 5x5 factorial arrangement and the Duncan test. The results indicated that there was not significance statistical difference(p.05) in planting days nor there was in interaction with species. A statistical difference (p.01) was found for species in all variables recorded, the percentage of establishment was 84.4 a, 81.1 ab, 78.8 b, 25.5 c and 4.42 d for B. simaruba, G. sepium, Jatropha sp, F. padifolia and S. chilensis, respectively. The percentages of covering and sprouting number were for B. simaruba (54.5 a and 8.2 a), G. sepium (35.8 ab and 5.4a), Jatropha sp (48.3 a 4.1 b), F. padifolia (9.4 b and 7.2 a) and for S. chilensis (1.3 c and 0.2 c). In conclusion B. simaruba, G. sepium and Jatropha sp are the species most suitable to be used as live fencing in the region

Con objeto de evaluar el establecimiento de diferentes especies arboreas susceptibles para cerco vivo, se plantaron 90 estacas de Papelillo Bursera simaruba, Cacahuananche Gliricidia sepium, Sangregado Jatropha sp, Camichin Ficus padifolia y Sauce Salix chilensis a diferentes intervalos poscorte (1, 3, 6, 9 y 12 dias) en parcelas de 6 m2, colocando seis estacas por parcela. Las variables evaluadas fueron: establecimiento (%), Cobertura (%) y Rebrotes (%). El diseno experimental utilizado fue completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 5x5 pruebas de Duncan. Los resultados indican que no existen diferencias (p0.05) para dias a la siembra y su interaccion con especies. entre especies se presentaron diferencias (p0.01) para todas las variables, siendo el establecimiento de 84.4 a, 81.1 ab, 78.8 b, 25.5 c y 4.42 d para B. simaruba, G. sepium, Jatropha sp, F. padifolia y S. chilensis, respectivamente. La cobertura y numero de rebrotes fue para B. simaruba (54.5 a y 8.2 a), G. sepium (35.8 ab y 5.4a), Jatropha sp (48.3 a 4.1 b), F. padifolia (9.4 b y 7.2 a) y para S. chilensis (1.3 c y 0.2 c). Se concluye que el B. simaruba, G. sepium y Jatropha sp son las especies mas promisorias para utilizarse como cerco vivo en la region
