English. The objective of this study was to improve the WUE (water use efficiency), reducing the soil evaporation using plastic cover and to determine the best irrigation scheduling. Two factors were studied: plastic cover and different irrigations scheduling using the pan evaporation to define the application dates. A complete random block design in a split-plot arrangement was used. CIAN-Precoz was the cultivar used in this study. El objetivo fue el de mejorar la EUA (Eficiencia en el uso del agua) reduciendo la evaporacion del suelo con acolchados de plastico y determinar un calendario de riegos optimos. Se estudiaron dos factores que fueron acolchados y tratamientos de riego programados en funcion de la evaporacion acumulada, usandose para su estudio un diseno de bloques al azar con arreglo en parcelos divididas. Se uso el cultivar CIAN-Precoz. El acolchado de plastico, ademas de reducir la evaporacion de 19 a 25% incrementa la EUA. El valor mas alto de EUA, que fue de 1.39 kg de algodon en hueso msup-3, se obtuvo con el tratamiento 590-135 mm de la evaporacion y acolchado con plastico
