Lack of information on growth and development of forest plantations in the Sierra Purepecha region in the state of Michoacan motivated the stablishment of an experimental forest plantation within the lands of the indigenous community of Capacuaro, Mich. to evaluate four pine species. The main objetive was to evaluate growth and mean anual increment in diameter, height, basal area and volume of P. douglasiana, P. pseudostrobus, P. montezumae and P. leiophylla planted at 2x2; 2.5x2.5; 3x3; 3.4x3.5; and 4x4 m spacings. The most important results showed that P. douglasiana at 2x2 m spacing achieved the highest volume production after 9.7 years of been planted, with 210 msub3/ha and 21.7 msub3/ha/yr of MAIV; P. montezumae and P. leiophylla achieved 185 and 186 msub3/ha respectively and 19 msub3/ha/yr in both cases; P.pseudostrobus totaled 155 msub3/ha/ye of MAIV

La falta de informacion sobre el crecimiento y desarrollo de plantaciones forestales en la Sierra Purepecha, Michoacan, motivo el establecimiento de una plantacion experimental con cuatro especies de pino en terrenos de la Comunidad Indigena de Capacuaro, Mich. El objetivo fue evaluar el crecimiento en diametro, altura, area basal y volumen de las especies utilizadas que fueron: P. douglasiana, P. pseudostrobus, P. montezumae, y P. leiophylla. Los espaciamientos estudiados fueron: 2x2; 2.5x2.5; 3x3; 3.4x3.5; y 4x4 m. Los resultados mostraron que la mayor produccion en volumen a 9.7 anos correspondio a P. douglasiana en el espaciamiento de 2x2 m, con 210 msup2/ha y un IMAV de 21.7 msup3/ha/ano; la produccion de P. montezumae y P. leiophylla fue de 185 y 186 msup3/ha (19 msup3 de 1 MAV) y el P. pseudostrobus produjo 155 msup3/ha (16 msup3 IMAV)
