[Identification of outstanding coconut palms in five ranches of Tecoman, Colima State] | Identificacion de palmas de coco sobresalientes en cinco ranchos de Tecoman, Colima

During 1985 to 1990 the copra yield (Kg/tree year) of 762 palm tree was registered; The objective was to characterize and to select highly productive palm trees in order to utilize them for breeding research. Palm trees were selected in base to yield (22.0 Kg/tree/year), without sanitary problems and having complete tree competition. The experimental sites (ranch) were Santa Anita (SA), De Gomez (DG), Santa Maria (SM), Los Desmontes (LD) and La Gloria (LG), all them Located in Tecoman, Colima. Findings showed, in spite of the agricultural management given in each ranch, highly productive palm trees in all the region, and 111 individuals of 762 population yielded 34 or higher kg of copra/tree/year. In this case one palm tree yielded 45 kg, two had 45 kg, three yielded 42 kg, four 40 kg, four 39 kg, five with 38 kg, fourteen had 37 kg, twenty yielded 36 kg, twenty 35 kg, and thirty seven palms had 34 kg. This findings showed that exist highly productive individuals npalm tree in the region: this is by far very higher than regional average (10 kg copra/tree/year). Multiple regression analysis was done, and the copra (yield/palm/year) was the dependant variable, while the number of coconuts (fruits)/tree and weight (g) per coconut were X1 and X2 the independant variable, respectively. Correlation coeficients were 46.45 for the whole population and 10.33, 51.26, 59.04, 46.90 and 40.64 for SA, SM, DG, LD and LG, respectively

Con el objetivo de caracterizar e identificar individuos altamente productivos, que sirvan de base para un programa de mejoramiento genetico, se registro de 1985 a 1990, el rendimiento (Kg copra/palma/ano) de 762 palmeras seleccionadas en cinco ranchos productores de coco. La seleccion se efectuo con base en rendimientos minimos de 22 kg copra/palma, con buen grado de sanidad y que tuvieran una disposicion topologica de competencia completa. Los ranchos estudiados fueron Santa Anita (SA), De Gomez (DG), Santa Maria (SM), Los Desmontes (LD) y La Gloria (LG), ubicados en el municipio de Tecoman, Colima. Los resultados mostraron que, independientemente del manejo dado al rancho, existen palmeras altamente productivas en el Valle de Tecoman. De esta manera 111 de 762 palmeras produjeron 34.0 kg o mas de copra/palma/ano; entre las mas sobresalientes se tienen una con 46 kg, con 45 kg (2 palmas), con 42.0 (3), 41 (2), 40 (4), 39 (4), 38 (5), 37(14), 36 (20), 35 kg (20 palmas) y con 34 kg (27 palmas), lo cual muestra que existe excelente material con potencial productivo, que rebasa considerablemente la media regional (10.0 kg copra/palma). Los coeficientes de determinacion del analisis de regresion lineal multiple entre el rendimiento (Y) y numero de cocos (Xsub1) y pulpa por nuez (Xsub2), fueron de 46.45 para la poblacion global (762 palmas) y de 10.33, 51.26, 59.04, 46.90 y 40.64 , para SA, SM, DG, LD Y LG, respectivamente
