The water-penny in bananas is the first ever recorded pest of crops for this group of insect. Water penny larvae stayed in water filled bracts but would occasionally go out to feed on the succulent and tender tissues of the emerging young leaves. Water pennies are entirely aquatic, known only to occur on the undersides of stones and other objects in streams and wave swept shores. The beetles description habits and ditribution are discussed
