Cytogenetic analyses of the intraspecific and intergeneric cross used in producing Laguna duck were done to determine the cause of partial sterility observed in Laguna duck. Five sexually mature Pekin, Philippine Mallard, Muscovy, Pekin x Philippine Mallard and Laguna drakes (triple cross birds, Muscovy x Pekin x Mallard) were used in the study. Findings showed that Laguna duck had a significantly lower meiotic index compared with Pekin, Philippine Mallard, Muscovy, and Pekin x Philippine Mallard ducks. Laguna duck had a few number of dividing cells. The five genetic groups have a chromosome number of 2n=80. The lower fertility of the intraspecific cross, Pekin x Philippine mallard and the intergenetic cross, Laguna duck, was due to the lower proportion of normal cells at different stages of meiosis. The lower fertility of Laguna duck could be due to the loose pairing, terminal and interstitial loops at parenchyma, higher frequency of univalent and metaphase 1, non-synchronized and unequal segregation at anaphase 1 and 2, and micronuclei
