Estimates of heterotic effects for yield and some important yield components in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Heterosis over mid and better parent for some important morphological characters was estimated in 9 crosses of wheat, involving three local varieties/lines viz. Inq. 91, Lu26S and 5039 and three exotic lines Viz. LABA 4, LABA 10 and LABA 16. Grain yield per plant showed maximum heterosis over the mid parent (41.01 percent) followed by spike length (38.50 percent), 1000-grain weight (35.30 percent) number of grains per spike (34.54 percent) and number of tillers per plant (26.58 percent). The maximum heterobeltiosis was recorded for spike length (35.93 percent) followed by number of grains per spike (26.17 percent) and number of tillers per plant (22.45 percent).
