The results of statistical correlations between some physical, hidrophysical, chemical and the mineralogical perameters indicated, that the physical and chemical properties of some alluvial soils from I.M.B., are influenced by the quantity and quality(mineralogical composition) of the clay. The structure parameters appear more closely related to a component (illite or smectite)of the clay than to the clay content. The relation of these indicators with mineralogical parameters are direct for the total porosity, and inverse for the bulk density and air porosity. The relationships between hidrophysical and mineralogical parameters, are direct for the hygroscopic and wilting coefficients, field capacity, maximum water-holding relation, the smectite plays the most important role. The cation exchange capacity is closen related to the clay content and the clay components. The obtained results demonstrate the utility of mineralogical data for the specification of origin of clay influence on the physical and chemical soil indices and for specification of a hierarchy of the clay minerals from the point of view of this influence.
