The influence of morphologically abnormal boar spermatozoa on litter size of gilts after the first inseminations

The paper is focused on evaluation of the influence of morphologically abnormal boar spermatozoa portion on pregnancy of gilts after the first insemination. Morphologically analyzed dosages were used for insemination and re-insemination. On a base of abnormal spermatozoa five classes with five percent intervals of abnormal spermatozoa were set up: - all morphological changes in spermatozoa besides eccentrically attached flagella, - undeveloped spermatozoa, - flagella torsions, - changes in head bases, - eccentrically attached flagella. Weak and middle strong significant negative correlations (-0.24 to -0.45) were found between abnormality occurrence and gilt pregnancy. For eccentrically attached flagella pregnancy relation was weakly positive non-significant. On the basis of linear regression a strong significant negative influence of undeveloped spermatozoa and flagella torsions on gilt pregnancy after the first insemination was found. The changes on head bases have a middle strong significant negative influence. The eccentrically attached flagella of spermatozoa have a weak non-significant influence. On the basis of these results it is recommended to take into account (not only the amount) but also the portion of individual spermatozoa's abnormalities in process of morphological analyses
