Adsorption of Cd and Hg in soil after activation with organic matter

In the laboratory, experiments studied the adsorption of heavy metals Cd and Hg in loamy and sandy soils, both alone and after activation with organic matter such as farmyard manure (FYM) at a rate of 20 t per ha and sodium humate (Na-H) at a rate of 5 kg per ha. The addition of increasing amounts of Cd and Hg also increased the equilibrium concentration in this order: control soil+FYM, control soil+Na-H. The adsorption of metals and adsorption maximum of the organic adsorbents increased as follows: FYM, Na-H and control. The higher value of adsorption in both soils was found for Cd in comparison with Hg. The values of adsorption maximum found for Cd and Hg were higher in loamy soil
