Geographical aspect and entomophagous insect diversity of cochineals of family Coccidae (Homoptera: Coccidae)

The objective was the study of the bionomy and ecology of selected scale-insect species of the Coccidae family occurring in the mild and tropical zone (middle Europe, Cuba) in the pertinent regions. The results permitted the formulation of basic factors which influence diversity of entomophagous scale-insects of family Coccidae depending on geology. The basic phenomenon are north and west length in connection with food quality (content of free amino acids) for phloem-sucking insects (the studied species belong to this group). Climatic factors influence food quality in an essential manner. It can be seen by humidity ratio in the tropical zone where a significant change occurs during the year (rainy and dry seasons). In central Europe this cycle occurs with an approximate 11-year amplitude corresponding to the 11-year cycle of solar activity. Expressive changes of thermal and rainfall rate also result in the complete change of parasitoid fauna in the tropical zone, while in the mild zone these changes do not occur
