Variability of morphological and physiological traits of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.)
1994
Gaborcik, N. (Vyskumny Ustav Luk a Pasienkov, Banska Bystrica (Slovakia))
In a series of pot experiments some morphological and physiological traits of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) cultivars were investigated. The variability of number of tillers per plant, leaf length and width as well as leaf elongation rate was confirmed. The cultivars differed in transpiration rate and chlorophyll content, stomatal number and photosynthetic rate. The rate of dark- and photo-respiration varied considerably. The cultivars differed also in dry matter production of above-ground parts, weight of root system, number of roots and root to shoot (R:S) ratio. Possibilities for using physiological traits in tall fescue breeding are indicated
