Susceptibility of the selected assortment of red clover [Trifolium pratense] to root rot and plant dying

16 diploid and 14 tetraploid cultivars of red clover were infected with a conida mixture of Fusarium oxysporum and F. solani. The most resistant to root rot were the diploid cultivars Pradi, Kotlasskij, Marathon, Raba, and Albatros. No cultivar was found with a significantly lower degree of affliction compared to the total average among tetraploid forms. Differences in cultivar infection were caused primarily by level of ploidy, earliness, or by provenance. Differences in cultivar durability were markedly influenced by their different sensitivity to fusarium rot. A positive correlation was found (r equals 0.54 sup(++)) between degree of affliction of surviving plants and number of dead plants
