The contribution to a determination of energy requirements for selected low pressure irrigations

Althrough low-pressure irrigation systems are predominant world-wide (approx. 85 percent), high and medium pressure sprinkler irrigation, which is energy-demanding and very well-designed, predominate in Central Europe and in the Slovak Republic. Significant energy savings would be achieved by partly replacing sprinkler irrigation by low-pressure irrigation. In this contribution energy requirements are evaluated for selected low-pressure irrigation both in production and in operation. Drainage pipe irrigation shows the lowest energy requirements (Ep=0.93 MJ mm** (-1) per hectare), whereas furrow irrigation (Ep=1.04 MJ mm** (-1) per hectare) and surface point irrigation (Ep=1.76 MJ mm** (-1) per hectare) show higher energy requirements. Furrow irrigation indicates the lowest requirements, whereas surface point irrigation and drainage pipe irrigation indicate higher requirements in terms of materialized energy. The above-mentioned irrigation systems can be designed to be fully automated
