Preservation and reproduction of the curly birch (Betula alba L. var. carelica Merk.) in Slovakia

The curly birch has been found on Slovak territory at 78 localities, mainly in the north-east. In addition to already known curly birch forms there was found a new form, with clusters of dormant buds, whose distribution range has not yet been described. About 330 individuals of curly birch were hetero-vegetatively propogated and these plants were used to establish a clone archive and a seed orchard. Several clones were also planted in the Arboretum Borova hora of the Technical University in Zvolen. At present the growth of the curly birch progenies is being estimated
