Soils in the Beskids (Czech Republic) can act as a long-term stress factor of forest stands particularly in areas characterized by low soil Mg content. Natural soil-forming processes and soil properties can be changed by increased inputs of air pollutants into the soil. The soil environment in the majority of the area of the Beskids however has not been affected to such an extent that it acts as an effective and decisive factor in forest stand dieback or failure in reforestation of clearings resulting from salvage felling
