Nitrogen transformations in agricultural soils of Slovakia

From 9 different soil-ecological sites (non-fertilized and NPK fertilized) data were collected on nitrogen mineralization and nitrification. The models (1:500,000 and 1:1,000,000) were created with help of models and on the basis of a Geographical Information System on soil of the Slovak Republic. Intensities of the processes were higher in more productive soils. Nitrogen fertilizers have a stimulating effect on nitrification processes mainly in more fertile soils. About 160 kg of mineral nitrogen is produced in agricultural soils of Slovakia (average) and about 45-50 kg nitrate nitrogen of that during the vegetation period (non-fertilized soils). When nitrogen fertilizers are applied this is much more (mainly in more fertile soils)
