1998
Bural, M. (Directorship National Park Poloniny, Humenne (Slovak Republic))
The Biosphere Reserve Eastern Carpathians, which is a part of a Biosphere Reserve extending through Poland and Ukraine, was established in 1993 and was also included in the UNESCO program Man and the Biosphere. In conformity with the three basic claims of the programme - nature conservation, regional development and logistics - in the five years of its existence the main emphasis has been put on nature conservation, i.e. to rescue the most valuable ecosystems and selected taxons of flora and fauna. The greatest progress was made in this field: in autumn 1997 the National Park Poloniny was established in the most valuable part of the Biosphere Reserve. To a lesser extent, problems of man and his activities in BR from the first trace until the present were studied. Less attention was paid to a proposal for conserving Man's positive impacts on the landscape from the viewpoint of diversity and cultural values. An approach and some conclusions of the research of the human impact on nature is presented
