Cadmium contamination of agricultural soils and vegetables
1997
Hegedusova, A. (Constantine Philosopher Univ., Nitra (Slovak Republic). Dept. of Chemistry)
Cadmium contamination of soil and various kinds of vegetables in the southern region of Slovakia were traced. Altogether 157 soil samples and 12 kinds of vegetables from various localities and of diverse variational compositions were analysed. Soil sample results show that the cadmium content in some cases is higher than the reference values established for standard soil (0.3 mg per kg), mostly in the southern part of Zitny Island. In the vegetables it was found that the hygienic limit for cadmium (0.05 mg per kg) was exceeded in the samples of garlic, onion and leek
