The fungus Cryphonectria parasitica in Slovakia occurs on 15 sites and within these on 63 stands. The region of the Male Karpaty is seriously endangered. In 1992-1994 hypovirulent strains from France were used to wipe out centres of infection. Trees from 7 sites were treated, with an overall number of 544 cankers
