Heavy metals and gaseous immissions in grassland ecosystems

The occurrence of heavy metals in grassland ecosystems was determined in semi-natural grassland in four regions of the Slovak Republic, at three sites of differing altitude. Samples of herbage, roots and soils were taken once a month during the growing period. Results show differing heavy metal content in each of the sampled materials. The lowest content was recorded in herbage, mostly under the limit value. Concentrations of SOX and NO2 data did not reach the limiting values. High SOX content was connected with nearby industrial agglomerates and reached maximum values outside of the growing period while NO2 content was markedly influenced by proximity to the big towns and cities
