The relationship between heat unit accumulation and the maturity of `Namdokmai' Mango (Mangifera indica) was studied. Thirty mango trees grown at Pakchong, Nakhon Ratchasima and Kamphaengsaen, Nakhon Pathom provinces, were used for tagging the inflorescence which were 50 % bloom. Heat units were calculated from the daily temperature recorded in the orchard and at weather stations nearby, and using the formula (T max + T min)/2 - base line temperature (18 deg C). Fruit quality was checked weekly from the 10th week until the 16th week after tagging. The `Namdokmai' mangoes took 902 to 993 Celsius Degree Days (CDD) and 91 to 105 days from the time of 50 % bloom to their maturity, which were 9 and 14 days apart, respectively. Both heat unit and the number of days from anthesis could be used as the harvesting index. Mature fruits had starch content =18-20 %, specific gravity =1.03 and soluble solids in ripened fruit =15 deg Brix.
