Technic of piglets bed heating in farrowing-pens

The aim of this paper is analysis of different pig pen types and theirs possibility as farrowing pens. Further, there are analyzed systems for farrowing-house heating, possibility of ceramics floor using and research results of hot floor concrete plates (Nigel - Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) for piglets heating. In this case, hot water flows through a plate, heats it and the air just above floor surface in farrowing-house. The analysis points to adventage on farrowing-pen consisted of three parts: central - for the sow, while the left and right are intended for piglets. Among different solutions of piglets heating technics, priority is given to the floor heating system. Hot concrete plates realize the mean temperature of 30.5 deg C (from a minimum of 20.4 deg C to a maximum of 34.3 deg C). The data indicate that the hot concrete plates are suitable in relation to the needed temperature for piglets, but applicable only in piggery with long-term piglets production.
