The effect of mineral fertilization on the variation in the nitrate concentration of fodder from natural and artificial grass-stands

Using the block method field experiments were conducted on both natural and artificial grass stands. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of fertilization with increasing nitrogen contents (N5N4O applied on natural swards and N10N5O - on artificial ones, either alone or against a background of P5K10) on the variation of yield and nitrate contents of the fodder dry matter. Mineral fertilization of natural and artificial swards generally produce favourable results. Increased nitrogen quantities lead to higher nitrate percentage of the fodder (both green and dry mass) from natural and artificial grass stands; the increase is higher in the first year. Fertilization with phosphates and potassium, alone or combined, or added to nitrogen, result in accumulation of less nitrates, increase in the protein nitrogen and decrease in the nitrate nitrogen. The results obtained fix the limit of nitrogen fertilizer norms that exercise a detrimental effect on the health of livestock.
