A mechanized farming operation is that which is carried out with the help of a machine. The machine could be a simple tool usch as a sickle, an animal powered implement such as the Maresha, or a complex machine like a combine harvesterThe mechanization level of farming in developing countries has been very uneven. In some regions of Latin America many farm operations are as mechanized as those in the United states, Japan, or Western Europe, while in many parts of Agrica and in hilly regions elsewhere farmers still till their fields with hand tools. Nevertheless, the same farm families who till their fields by hand often process their grain in motorized mills and send it to market in motorized vehicles. In south and outheast Asia tractors are replacing draught animals for primary tillage and transport, while in West Africa a number of governments are trying to introduce draught animals into farming systems that have never used them. Moreover, agricultural mechanization inputs that, are technically excellent and available in research and extension centers, are not usually adopted and sustainably used by small scale farmers.
