Utilization of organic residues in Ethiopia: a review
1996
Taye Bekele (IAR, Addis Abeba (Ethiopia))
Trials conducted at several locations evaluated the fertilizer values of different sources of organic residues in comparison with N and P fertilizers. These trials in most cases were viewed interms of their short term yield gain. The contribution of the residues to the improvement of the soil physical characteristics and sustainable production has not been assessed. Furthermore, the chemical composition of most available organic residues, their C/N ratio and their changes overtime, which are essential for understanding the process of decomposition of organic matter are rarely investigated.
