Evaluation of pre-and post-emergence herbicides for weed control in haricot bean

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of four pre-and post-emergence herbicides, at different application rates, for weed control in haricot bean. Igran combi, applied pre-emergence, has effectively controlled the major weeds and was relatively less phytotoxic to the crop. Eventhough differences were not significant the other pre-emergence herbicides have also registered yield increment, less crop toxicity and reduced weed density. Agil 100 EC, a post-emergence herbicide, was the least effective on weeds and toxic to the crop consequently leading to the lowest haricot bean yield. Significant negative correlation was observed between the three parameters measured i.e. weed control, phytotoxicity, weed population and grain yield. There was a yield loss of 71.4 percent when haricot bean was left unweeded.
