Morphological characters and taxonomic status of short-tailed mole rat in Bangladesh

The short-tailed mole rat, Nesokia indica (Gray), collected from Ishurdi, Bangladesh, are heavily built, densely furred rats with a short, round head and broad muzzle. The incisors are short, broad and are coated with pale enamel. The ears are small, naked and round. The lip does not cover the base of the upper incisors. The dorsal body was coated with slightly coarse hair, and is dark greyish-brown to reddish in colour. The ventral pelage is greyish- white with soft hair. The tail is naked, scaly and flesh coloured and its length is 70% or less of the heady body length. The mammae formula is always 2 + 2 =8. N.indica of Bangladesh has taxonomic features similar to those of N.indica race of India.
