The local group of Brussels of the royal association for study of birds and nature "De Wielewaal" has followed up, from 1992 till 1997, the population of birds in several green spaces in the Brussels Region. The results for the cemeteries of Brussels and Schaarbeek situated in Evere are discussed. 49 species have been registrated. To examine if an area, typically managed as an urban park may have a value for nature, these results are compared with those of the Scheutbos situated in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, a park concepted and managed on a more ecological basis. The number of observed species is highest in the Scheutbos. Proposals are made to stimulate the population of birds in public parks.
