Hundred twelve puppies from 16 different litters and 17 adults Dalmatian dogs were investigated through the brainstem auditory-evoked potentials (BAEP) method for deafness detection. Eight puppies of eight different breeds were also investigated. Among the 122 dogs affiliated to the Belgian Dalmatian dog Club (BDC), 16.5/ were unilaterally deaf and 2.5/ were bilaterally deaf. These proportions are lower than those reported in the USA but similar to those reported in UK for this breed. The deafness incidence in one litter not affiliated to the BDC was larger. Wave I and Wave V latencies gathered in our conditions are reported and discussed.
