Relative participation of maize organs in nitrogen uptake

It was shown that corn cobs accumulated the highest quantity (73%) from the total taken up by the maize nitrogen, when in the leaves this quantity was (16%), and in the stalks it was (11%). With nitrogen rate of fertilization decreasing, accumulated in stalks and leaves relative quantity of nitrogen decreased but increased that in the corncob. Medium early maturing hybrids showed lower relative accumulation of nitrogen in the stalks and leaves as compared to these organs of late maturing hybrids. Cobs of the medium early maturing hybrids showed higher relative accumulation of nitrogen those cobs of the late maturing hybrids, independently on the cropping conditions. Influences of soil type on relative nitrogen accumulation in maize organs have been also established.
