Uptake of nitrogen and changes in some biochemical components depending on the kind and amount of nitrogen source in tomato plants

Pot trial was carried out with two soils: cinnamonic podzolized (pH=3.7) and calcareous chernozem (pH=6.8) and two sources of nitrogen ( ammonium nitrate and urea), applied at increasing doses with the Marone tomato culture. Concentration of the total nitrogen in the overground parts of the plants increases when nitrogen rate in both studied soils increases. The content of nitrogen was higher when urea was used (for two soils). Optimal concentration of the nitrogen (2.7-2.8%) was found when urea was applied - N=200-400mg/kg for cinnamonic podzolized soil. For two sources of nitrogen optimal content of N in the investigated plants was achieved when N in calcareous chernozem was 1000-1200 mg/kg soil. Concentration of the chlorophills (A+B) increases with the increasing of N doses. Levels of nitrogen higher than 800 mg/kg soil depresses the plants. Carotinoides shows the same tendencies as the chlorophills. Maximum of nitrate reductase activity was obtained with 400 mg N/kg soil dressing. Higher concentration of N depress the enzime.
