The objective of the study was to investigate the abundance of Azotobacter in the rhizosphere of four variety hybrids (Hy-11, Dana, Delta and Norma) inoculated with several strains of Azotobacter chroococcum (2, 3, 5, 8, 14, 2/1). The samples were taken on two different dates, in two years. On average, all the strains brought about a statistically significant increase in the number of the bacteria in relation to the uninoculated treatments. The greatest increase was in number of Azotobacter achieved in September. Inoculation with strains A.chroococcum 2,5 and 8 produced the highest number of bacteria in the rhizosphere of variety Delta in 1995 and Dana in 1996.
