Short term selection experiment for divergence selection on five week body weight in Japanese quail was efficient on the selected trait. In upward line compared to downward line maturity body weight was increased and age of maturity decreased as a result of selection. No correlated selection effect were found on other traits of egg production - number of eggs to 150-d of age, egg production rate, egg mass and egg weight.Probably absence of such effects was a result of not well presented divergence on body weight during the controlled period.
