Methods for detection of residual antibiotics and sulphonamides in bee honey

The aim of this study was to investigate the sensitivity of 10 bacterial test strains for detection of antibiotic and sulphonamide residuals in bee honey. Inhibiting zones are established of Bac. subtilis ( a strain from Germany), Bac. subtilis BGA, Bac. cereus v. mycoides 11778 and Bac. cereus, due to the natural antimicrobial activity of honey. The largest inhibiting zones are established in polyflowered honey. Highest sensibility in honey artificially contaminated with antibiotics and sulphonamides is found of the bcterial strains M. luteus 9341 and Bac. stearothermophilus v. calidolactis C 953. Results indicate that the thin layer chromatography can be used for detection of sulphoamides in honey. A mixture of chloroformium and acetone (1:1) is appropriate for extraction of sulphonamides from bee noney speciments.
