Object of investigation were Chromic and Humic Cambisoil (FAO) at the 1200m altitude from south-eastern part of Rhodope mountains, formed respectively, on rhyolites and gneiss. The purpose of the study was to present the total biological activity determinated as a quantity of avolved CO2. The comparative study of the soils show a dependence of the CO2, evolution intensity from the type of vegetation, respectively soil organic matter. Parent materials as well as rellef deposition play a subordinate role for the functional activity of the living organisms, while the quick changes of climatic conditions, previaling on the exposed mountaneous areas, decrease the intensity of the evolved CO2 including in the surface horizons.
