This overview summarizes the main Salmonella serotypes in 1997 from livestock in Belgium. Typhimurium and Dublin were the most frequently found serotypes in cattle, whereas mainly Typhimurium was isolated from pigs. In poultry Enteritidis and Hadar were the most prevalent serotypes, although the number of serotypes. Hadar strains was found to be decreasing in comparison with previous years. The resistance profiles of serotypes Typhimurium isolates suggested that the highly pathogenic lysotype DT104 was widely spread among livestock in Belgium. Almost all serotypes enteritidis strains were sensitive against all antimicrobial agents tested.
