The effects of three different light intensities under covering gauzes on the growth and the physiological mechanism in Spathiphyllum palls Hort. were studied. The results showed that under low light intensity (approx. 50 and 25 of the control) the plants indicated more chlorophyll content, dark green leaf, rapid grwoth, bigger size and more number of leaves then that of the control. Under shading the photosynthetic rate increased and the respiration rate decreased, the structure of chloroplast and grana developed normally. Lowering the light intensity by covering gauzes promoted the growth and the ornamental quality in Spithiphyllum palls
