Hay field degradation on different taxons of the association of typical sod-calcerous, half-bog soddy and peaty bog soils

The average hay crop of the studied hay field (unfertilized, of variegated soil composition), measured over six years (1992-1997 harvest years 13-19) ranged from 1.02-3.35 t/ha, depending on the soil. The cropincreased along the descent of the hill, i.e. alongside the growing moisture content of the soils, which trend generally coincides with the natural sequence of soil taxons: typical sod-calcareous soil (1.02 and 1.32 t/ha); gleyed sod-calcareous soil (2.0 and 2.68 t/ha); peaty-soddy gley soil (2,97 t/ha); peaty bog soil (2.97 and 3.25 t/ha). A hay field in long-term use displays a strong vertical differentiation of agro-chemical properties in the surface layer of 0-25 cm. Beside the features common to the three soils some differences in details can be observed, depending on the characteristics of the absorption and removal of plant nutrients, peculiar to each soil
