Observations on the overwintering and ontogenesis of Cameraria ohridella (Deschka et Dimic 1986, Lep. Lithocolletidae)

unknown. During the investigation made, in 1997, on the overwintering and ontogenesis of Cameraria ohridella, the row trees and the mixed and homogeneous stands of chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum L.) were compared. Higher overwintering rate of C. ohridella was observed in the row trees (average of 24 adults/100 g of litter), than in either the homogeneous or the mixed stand (average of 9 adults/100 g of litter). Frost tolerance of the overwintering pupae was high (-23 degrees and 19,5 degrees) in case of the later winter (February) - early spring (March) populations, thus winter frosts are not taken as factor greatly influencing the population number of the species
