Light trapping as a mean to control Xytrocera festiva Pascoe (Cerambycidae: Coleoptera)

Xytrocera festiva is the most important inner bark and wood boring insect pest of sengon (Paraserianthes falcataria) plantations in Indonesia especially in Java and Sumatra. The current control measures are aimed at killing the larvae colonies living inside the stem, but not any of the measures had achieved satisfactorily results. Therefore, new control approaches are urgently needed, one of them is light trapping of the beetles. An experiment to catch X. festiva beetles using light traps was carried out on 4 years, and 20 ha in size sengon plantation by infested X. festiva in Cigombong, Bogor. In the first phase, the green, blue, violet, red and white tubular lamp (TL) of 10 watt were used to trap the beetles. In the second phase, light trapping was conducted using six green TL which the beetles preferred most to its light during the first phase trial. The trapped beetles had a sex ratio of near to 1 : 1 and all of the female beetles trapped had not oviposited. The number of trapped beetles has positive correlation to the number of infested stems. Trapping was done at night. In addition, wheather condition has significant effects on the number of beetles caught
