1997
Santoso, B. (Balai Penelitian Kehutanan, Ujung Pandang (Indonesia))
The experiment was conducted in Pakatto (Gowa District, South Sulawesi) to compare the growth and leaf production of some mulberry hybrid. A randomized completely block design was used with 3 replications each consisted of 20 plots. Eleven hybrid mulberry varieties namely NI, ASi, ALl, B2A, CA, CB2, B21, ABl, A5l, A5Bl and Al, and 2 species mulberry, i.e. M. alba and M. nigra were tested as treatment. The result of the experiment showed that: (1) The growth (branch length, leaf number and leaf weight) of mulberry varieties were significant compared to M. nigra and M. alba. Controlled pollination of mulberry could increase growth and branch length, branch number, leaf number and leaf weight as many as 22.6 percent, 2.5 percent, 45.9 percent and 103 percent respectively (2) Leaf production of hybrid mulberry varieties was significant compared to M. nigra and M. alba. NI variety was the highest leaf production (215, 21 gr/tree). Controlled pollination of mulberry also increased leaf production 5.6-459.0 percent
