Performance of clonal tea in rehabilitated and replanted field: 2. yields

An experiment to test improved planting material (clones) and rehabilation in a replanted tea field, clonal differences in yield response were found. Low yielding seedling teas were uprooted and the fields rehabilitated for either one or two years by planting Guatemala grass. After rehabilitation, the fields were planted to high yielding clones. Clones 31/37, S15/10, and CG284864 yielded significantly higher than all the other clones. Clone 31/8 and the un-uprooted seedling tea had significantly lower yields than the other clones. All the clones did not reach their expected yield potential normally achieved in virgin lands. Rehabilitation for one or two years did not seem to confer any beneficial effects on the yield of clonal teas.
