[Effect white clower defoliation on the seed production and maturity]
1999
Slepetys, J. (Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture, Dotnuva (Lithuania))
Experiments were carried out at Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture. They involved white clover cultivars 'Atoliai' and 'Bitunai'. It was established that when defoliation was carried out on 11-18 June, the cv. 'Bitunai' aftermath seed matured 12, cv. 'Atoliai' - 7 days later than the seed of the not defoliated stand. A delayed defoliation tended to reduce the weed incidence in the aftermath, however, it tended to reduce the number of seed-bearing heads, except cv. 'Atoliai'. Having performed defoliation at the 5, 10, 15 cm height at the best time a significantly higher seed yield obtained from the aftermath cv. 'Atoliai' - 48, 34, 47 kg/ha, cv. 'Bitunai' - 41, 32, 36 kg/ha.
